Majo no Jouken

Majo no Jouken (The Witch's Conditions) is a poignant Japanese television drama that explores the controversial and forbidden romance between Michi Hirose, a 26-year-old high school math teacher, and Hikaru Kurosawa, a troubled 17-year-old student. Feeling trapped by the expectations of her father and her fiancé, Michi finds a sense of liberation and genuine connection when she meets Hikaru, who is struggling with his own family pressures and a sense of alienation from his peers. As their relationship deepens, the pair faces intense societal judgment, professional ruin, and familial betrayal. The series serves as a powerful critique of the rigid social structures and educational systems in Japan during the late 1990s. Through their journey, Michi and Hikaru must decide if their love is worth sacrificing everything they have ever known, ultimately questioning what it truly means to be free in a world governed by strict, often suffocating, conditions.
