Major Crimes is a spin-off of the long-running police procedural The Closer, picking up immediately after the departure of Brenda Leigh Johnson. The series follows Captain Sharon Raydor as she takes command of the Los Angeles Police Department's Major Crimes Division. Unlike her predecessor, Raydor adopts a more collaborative, team-oriented approach, focusing on the pursuit of plea bargains and the complexities of the justice system rather than just securing confessions. Throughout the series, the squad navigates high-stakes investigations while dealing with internal politics, personal growth, and the integration of Rusty Beck, a teenage witness who becomes a central figure in Raydor's life. The show is noted for its shift in tone from the character-driven interrogation style of its predecessor to a more procedural, ensemble-focused drama that explores the moral gray areas of the American legal system.
