Man Down is a British sitcom created by and starring comedian Greg Davies as Dan Davies, an immature, deeply neurotic, and profoundly unmotivated drama teacher trapped in a perpetual mid-life crisis. Dan despises his job, lacks any sense of direction or romantic aptitude, and constantly struggles with the basic demands of adulthood. His chaotic day-to-day existence is made exponentially worse by his relentlessly combative, eccentric father, Martin, whose primary hobby is terrorizing Dan with elaborate and violent practical jokes. Dan navigates his chaotic world with the dubious help of his two equally dysfunctional best friends: Jo, an aggressively upbeat but hopelessly scatterbrained woman who flits through bizarre non-career paths, and Brian, an uptight, pedantic financial planner permanently exhausted by the juvenile antics around him. Whether dealing with unruly schoolchildren, demanding administrators, or humiliating romantic pursuits, Dan's attempts to assert control over his life invariably backfire in spectacular fashion. Following the tragic passing of comedy legend Rik Mayall after Season 1, the series introduced Dan's eccentric aunt Nesta, preserving the intense domestic torment that defines Dan's home life. Filled with physical comedy, surreal situations, and deadpan British wit, the series documents Dan's endlessly botched attempts to transcend his own idiocy and become a functioning adult.
