McMillan & Wife

McMillan & Wife is a classic American mystery series that follows Stewart McMillan, the sophisticated and somewhat bumbling Police Commissioner of San Francisco, and his beautiful, inquisitive, and often more observant wife, Sally McMillan. The series is defined by the charming chemistry between the leads as they navigate high-society life in San Francisco while frequently stumbling upon complex murder investigations. Unlike traditional gritty police procedurals, the show balances suspenseful whodunit plots with lighthearted domestic comedy. Sally’s amateur sleuthing often proves vital to solving cases that baffle the police department, leading to humorous friction and affectionate banter between the couple. Supported by their loyal, dry-witted housekeeper Mildred and the earnest Sergeant Enright, the series became a staple of the NBC Mystery Movie wheel.
