Mr. Sterling is a political drama that follows Bill Sterling, a young, idealistic, and politically inexperienced schoolteacher who is unexpectedly appointed to the United States Senate to fill a vacancy. The son of a former governor, Sterling is initially viewed as a political pawn by the establishment, but he quickly finds himself struggling to maintain his moral compass while navigating the complex, often cynical machinery of Washington D.C. politics. As he settles into his new role, Sterling faces constant pressure from party leadership, lobbyists, and his own staff to compromise his principles for the sake of political expediency. The series explores the tension between his desire to effect genuine change and the harsh reality of legislative gridlock, highlighting the personal and professional toll that public service takes on a man who refuses to play by the traditional rules of the game.
