New Amsterdam follows the brilliant and unconventional Dr. Max Goodwin, who becomes the medical director of one of the oldest public hospitals in the United States. Driven by a desire to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care, Max sets out to disrupt the status quo and prove that the hospital will stop at nothing to save its patients. His mantra, 'How can I help?', becomes the catalyst for systemic change within the institution. As Max navigates the challenges of hospital administration, he is supported by a dedicated team of doctors and staff, including Dr. Helen Sharpe, Dr. Floyd Reynolds, Dr. Lauren Bloom, Dr. Iggy Frome, and Dr. Vijay Kapoor. Together, they tackle complex medical cases while dealing with their own personal struggles, ethical dilemmas, and the constant pressure of working in a resource-strapped public healthcare system. The series explores themes of empathy, social justice, and the human connection at the heart of medicine.
