NewsRadio is a classic American workplace sitcom that aired on NBC from 1995 to 1999, set in the hectic offices of WNYX, a fictional, second-tier all-news radio station in New York City. The series follows the brilliant yet neurotic news director Dave Nelson, who tries to maintain a semblance of professional order amidst a colorful and eccentric staff. Key personnel include the fiercely ambitious executive producer Lisa Miller, laid-back anchor Bill McNeal, anxious producer Matthew Brock, cynical office manager Beth, billionaire eccentric station owner Jimmy James, and sharp-witted engineer Joe Garrelli. Throughout its run, the show thrives on fast-paced, witty dialogue, bizarre running gags, and absurd workplace scenarios that range from corporate power struggles to deeply trivial office disputes. The dynamics are further shaken up following the tragic passing of cast member Phil Hartman after the fourth season, leading to memorable guest appearances by Jon Lovitz as Max Louis in the final season. NewsRadio remains celebrated as one of the smartest and most inventive comedies of the 1990s.
