In the distant future, humanity has been driven from Earth by an invading force of mechanical lifeforms from another world. In a final effort to reclaim the planet, the human resistance deploys a force of android soldiers known as 'YoRHa' to combat the invaders. The story follows the android 2B, a multi-purpose battle model, and her reconnaissance partner 9S, as they navigate a desolate, post-apocalyptic landscape. As the conflict unfolds, 2B and 9S begin to uncover long-buried truths about the nature of the war, the origin of the machines, and the true purpose of their own existence. The series explores profound philosophical themes regarding consciousness, the definition of humanity, and the cyclical nature of suffering, all while expanding upon the narrative established in the critically acclaimed video game by Yoko Taro.
