Yato is a minor deity and self-proclaimed 'Delivery God' who dreams of having millions of worshippers and his own grand shrine. Working odd jobs for mere five-yen coins, his life takes a complicated turn when a high school girl named Hiyori Iki saves him from a bus accident, causing her soul to occasionally slip out of her body. Stranded in a supernatural state between the living and the dead, Hiyori enlists Yato's help to fix her condition. Along the way, they are joined by Yukine, a troubled wandering spirit whom Yato takes on as his Regalia—a sacred weapon capable of slaying malevolent phantoms known as Ayakashi. As they battle unseen threats and navigate the complex politics and dangers of the heavens, Yato's dark and bloody past comes back to haunt him, threatening his fragile present and everyone he has grown to care about.
