Old Time Buddy is a highly acclaimed 1997 Hong Kong television series produced by TVB. The story follows the lives and friendships of four individuals—Lee Kei, Tse Yuen, Siu Fong-fong, and Ching Po-chu—who navigate the ups and downs of the Hong Kong film industry during the 1960s and 1970s. The series is a satirical homage to the 'golden age' of Cantonese cinema, blending comedy and drama as the characters struggle with professional rivalries, romantic entanglements, and the shifting landscape of show business. As the characters strive for stardom, they face various personal challenges and moral dilemmas that test their bonds. The show is celebrated for its clever parody of real-life legendary actors from that era, using humor to explore themes of loyalty, ambition, and the fleeting nature of fame. Its immense popularity led to a sequel, a stage musical, and a spin-off, cementing its status as a classic of Hong Kong television.
