Onyx Equinox

Set in a Mesoamerican world, the series follows Izel, a young Aztec boy who is saved from death by the gods and chosen as humanity's champion. Tasked with closing the gates of the underworld by sealing five magical portals across different ancient cultures, Izel must embark on a perilous journey that forces him to question his worth, confront devastating grief, and decide whether humanity is truly worth saving. Created by Sofía Alexander, the series is praised for its rich, authentic representation of Mesoamerican mythology and history, featuring diverse depictions of various civilizations such as the Aztecs and the Mayans. Alongside a complex ensemble cast of gods, warriors, and outcasts, Izel battles not only monstrous deities and physical trials, but also the heavy burdens of loss, destiny, and morality.
