Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's timeless Tamil epic novel, 'Ponniyin Selvan: The Series' plunges viewers into the golden age of the Chola Empire. The narrative follows the intricate political maneuvers, treacherous conspiracies, and deep-seated rivalries surrounding the imperial throne as aging Emperor Sundara Chola's health declines. His ambitious children—Aditya Karikalan, Kundavai, and Arunmozhi Varman (the titular Ponniyin Selvan)—find themselves targeted by a powerful faction of nobles led by Pazhuvettarayar, who plots to place a rival claimant on the throne. Intertwined with grand political warfare are complex personal histories, notably the enigmatic vengeance of Nandini, whose allegiance to the Pandya rebels threatens to tear the empire apart from within. As loyal spies like the charismatic Vanthiyathevan race across the kingdom to deliver vital messages and protect the royal heirs, the series explores themes of duty, love, betrayal, and destiny across land and sea.
