Run with the Wind follows Kakeru Kurahara, a former elite high school runner who finds himself destitute and shoplifting for food. He is rescued by Haiji Kiyose, a fellow student at Kansei University who recognizes Kakeru's natural talent. Haiji, a track enthusiast, has a singular dream: to lead a ragtag group of residents from the dilapidated Chikusei-so dormitory to compete in the Hakone Ekiden, one of Japan's most prestigious and grueling university relay marathons. The conflict arises as the group consists of nine complete novices, including a heavy smoker, an otaku, and an older student, none of whom have any interest in long-distance running. As Haiji pushes them through rigorous training, the series explores themes of camaraderie, personal growth, and the psychological toll of athletic pursuit. Together, they must overcome their individual insecurities and physical limitations to transform from a group of misfits into a cohesive team capable of tackling the 217.9-kilometer race.
