Second City Television (SCTV) is a groundbreaking, Emmy Award-winning Canadian sketch comedy series that parodies television programming, commercials, movies, and pop culture. Set within the fictional, low-budget television station 'SCTV' located in Melonville, the show features a revolving lineup of eccentric network executives, inept technicians, and wildly theatrical on-air personalities. Unlike traditional sketch shows of its era, SCTV relies on recurring characters, serialized behind-the-scenes drama, and sustained satirical attacks on the conventions of broadcast media. The show served as a major breeding ground for comedic talent, featuring a legendary ensemble cast including John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, Rick Moranis, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Joe Flaherty, Dave Thomas, and Martin Short. Through brilliant impersonations, absurd recurring segments like 'The Great White North' with Bob and Doug McKenzie, and biting mockumentaries, SCTV dismantled the pretensions of the entertainment industry while creating an indelible lexicon of catchphrases and universally beloved characters.
