She's Gotta Have It is a contemporary update of Spike Lee's groundbreaking 1986 debut film. The series follows Nola Darling, a Brooklyn-based artist in her late twenties who is struggling to define herself and divide her time amongst her friends, her job, and her three lovers: the respectful investment banker Jamie Overstreet, the narcissistic model Greer Childs, and the fun-loving, sneaker-obsessed Mars Blackmon. As Nola navigates the complexities of modern dating, career aspirations, and the gentrification of her beloved Fort Greene neighborhood, she is forced to confront her own desires and the societal expectations placed upon her. The show serves as a vibrant, stylish exploration of female agency, sexual autonomy, and the search for identity in a rapidly changing urban landscape.
