Based on the best-selling novel by Toyoko Yamasaki, 'Shizumanu Taiyo' chronicles the life of Hajime Onchi, a dedicated employee of the fictional National Airlines (NAL). The story spans decades, beginning with Onchi's role as a labor union leader fighting for safer working conditions, which leads to his exile to overseas posts in Africa and the Middle East by the company's vindictive management. As Onchi endures years of isolation away from his family, the narrative shifts to the catastrophic crash of a NAL flight, exposing the deep-seated corruption, political collusion, and bureaucratic negligence within the airline. The series serves as a powerful critique of post-war Japanese corporate culture, highlighting the moral struggle of an honest man attempting to reform a system that views human lives as expendable assets.
