Todd McFarlane's Spawn follows the tragic fate of Al Simmons, an elite black-ops assassin who is murdered by his corrupt superior, Jason Wynn. Sent to hell due to his ruthless past, Simmons makes a desperate pact with the demonic entity Malebolgia to return to Earth one last time to see his beloved wife, Wanda. However, he is resurrected five years later as a scarred, powerful hellspawn creature bound to lead Hell's army. Trapped in the decaying alleys of New York City, Spawn must navigate a gritty urban underworld while evading heaven's angelic agents and earthbound federal investigators led by Detectives Twitch Williams and Sam Burke. Tormented by fragmented memories of his past life and his monstrous new reality, he wages a solitary war against crime syndicates, demonic forces, and his own internal damnation, striving to retain whatever humanity he has left.
