Stateless

Inspired by real-life events, 'Stateless' intertwines the lives of four strangers trapped inside an immigration detention center in the Australian desert: an airline hostess escaping a suburban cult, an Afghan refugee fleeing persecution with his family, a young father working as a guard who is struggling to make ends meet, and a bureaucrat caught up in a national scandal. As their paths cross within the high-security compound, the series explores the deeply human cost of the immigration system and the complex moral dilemmas faced by those inside and outside the facility. The narrative builds tension through the contrasting perspectives of the detainees, who are desperately seeking safety and dignity, and the workers, who are often bound by rigid institutional rules. Through its nuanced character studies, the show highlights themes of identity, trauma, freedom, and the psychological impact of indefinite detention.
