Cinema & TelevisionTales of the Wizard of Oz is an animated television series produced by Videocraft International that first aired in 1961. Based loosely on the classic characters created by L. Frank Baum, the series follows the young Dorothy, her faithful dog Toto, and her iconic companions—the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion—as they journey through the whimsical and sometimes perilous Land of Oz. The overarching conflict centers on their encounters with the Wicked Witch of the West and various other magical obstacles as Dorothy seeks a way back home to Kansas. Known for its distinct, simplistic animation style and short segment format, the show predated many modern adaptations and helped popularize Baum's literary universe for a new generation of television viewers.
