The Beverly Hillbillies follows the Clampett family—Jed, his daughter Elly May, his mother-in-law Granny, and his nephew Jethro—who strike it rich when they discover oil on their land in the Ozarks. Following the advice of their banker, Milburn Drysdale, the family moves to a mansion in the upscale neighborhood of Beverly Hills, California. The series centers on the culture clash between the simple, rustic values of the Clampetts and the sophisticated, often pretentious lifestyle of their wealthy neighbors. Much of the humor stems from the family's misunderstanding of modern conveniences and social norms, as well as the schemes of Drysdale’s secretary, Miss Jane Hathaway, who tries to help them assimilate. Despite their immense wealth, the Clampetts remain humble and kind-hearted, often inadvertently disrupting the lives of the socialites around them while maintaining their own unique, backwoods traditions.
