The story follows Yoshihiko, an earnest and slightly dim-witted young man who is chosen by a sword to become a hero. His mission is to travel across the land to find a legendary herb that will cure a mysterious plague ravaging his village, which was inadvertently brought back by his father who went on the same quest but never returned. Along the way, he is joined by a ragtag group of companions, including a perverted swordsman, a magic-user who can only summon useless spells, and a girl who is obsessed with Yoshihiko. Presented as a parody of classic Japanese role-playing games like Dragon Quest, the series is known for its intentionally low-budget production values, meta-humor, and absurd comedic situations. Despite the serious premise of saving the world, the characters frequently encounter bizarre monsters, eccentric NPCs, and pop-culture references that subvert traditional fantasy tropes, making it a cult classic in the Japanese comedy genre.
