Set in the turbulent mid-Joseon period, the story unfolds against a backdrop of severe power struggles and royal instability. To escape the constant threat of assassination and poisoning by his political enemies, King Lee Heon places a clown named Ha-seon—who looks astonishingly like him—on the throne. As Ha-seon secretly steps into the royal shoes, he brings warmth, justice, and humanity to a corrupt court, radically shifting the dynamics of the palace. However, maintaining the grand deception becomes increasingly perilous. Ha-seon must navigate treacherous court factions led by the ruthless royal secretary Shin 치-soo, all while managing a complex and blossoming romance with Queen Yoo So-woon, who begins to notice subtle yet profound changes in her husband's behavior and character. What starts as a desperate survival tactic transforms into a gripping tale of power, identity, sacrifice, and true leadership.
