The Doctor Blake Mysteries

Set in the late 1950s in the provincial town of Ballarat, Australia, the series follows Dr. Lucien Blake, a man who returns home after 30 years abroad to take over his late father's medical practice and role as the town's police surgeon. Haunted by the disappearance of his wife and child during the fall of Singapore in World War II, Blake is a complex, unconventional, and often abrasive man who uses his sharp intellect and forensic medical skills to solve murders that baffle the local police force. As he navigates the social and political tensions of post-war Australia, Blake finds an unlikely ally in his housekeeper, Jean Beazley, and a strained professional relationship with the local constabulary. The series explores themes of trauma, justice, and the clash between traditional values and the changing world, all while Blake battles his own demons and the lingering mysteries of his past.
