The Dry

"The Dry" is an intense psychological drama and mystery television series based on the bestselling novel by Jane Harper. Set against the stark, unforgiving backdrop of a drought-stricken Australian rural town, the story follows Federal Agent Aaron Falk as he reluctantly returns to his hometown for the first time in decades to attend the tragic funeral of his childhood best friend, Luke. Luke allegedly murdered his wife and child before taking his own life, a horrific act that has left the local community reeling with anger and disbelief. As Falk is persuaded by Luke's parents to stay and look into the investigation, long-buried secrets and dark community resentments are violently clawed to the surface. Falk finds himself dredging up ghosts from his own past, specifically the suspicious drowning of a teenage girl decades earlier, which had forced him and his father to flee the town under a cloud of suspicion. Blending a gripping murder mystery with a profound exploration of trauma, isolation, and rural hardship, the series exposes the heavy weight of the past in a land starved of water.
