The Effect

The Effect is a Thai BL (Boys' Love) drama that explores the dark and psychological consequences of sexual assault and harassment within a university setting. The story follows Shin, a quiet and introverted freshman who finds himself the target of Keng, a popular and charismatic senior. What begins as an unwanted pursuit quickly spirals into a traumatic ordeal that shatters Shin's mental health and social life. As the series progresses, it delves into the aftermath of the assault, focusing on the victim's struggle to cope with trauma, the societal stigma surrounding the incident, and the toxic dynamics of power and obsession. Unlike many romanticized dramas, The Effect takes a serious, cautionary approach to its subject matter, highlighting the devastating impact of non-consensual actions on both the victim and those around them.
