The Empress Cheonchu

The Empress Cheonchu is a historical epic that chronicles the life of Empress Dowager Cheonchu, the granddaughter of King Taejo, the founder of the Goryeo Dynasty. The series depicts her as a formidable and ambitious leader who seeks to reclaim the lost territories of Goguryeo and protect the Goryeo kingdom from the encroaching Khitan Empire. Unlike traditional portrayals of women in the Goryeo era, she is depicted as a warrior-queen who actively participates in military strategy and political maneuvering. The narrative follows her complex relationships with her family, including her brother King Mokjong and her son King Hyeonjong, as well as her struggles against the powerful Kim clan and the internal corruption of the royal court. As she navigates the treacherous waters of palace politics and the battlefield, she must balance her personal desires with her duty to the nation, ultimately cementing her legacy as one of the most influential and controversial figures in Korean history.
