The Empress Ki

Set during the Yuan dynasty, the series chronicles the life of Ki Seung-nyang, a Goryeo-born woman who overcomes deep-seated institutional prejudices, political assassinations, and power struggles to become a powerful empress of the Yuan dynasty. Born as a tribute woman from Goryeo, Seung-nyang disguises herself as a man to survive and eventually rises through the ranks of the palace. Caught in a complex web of romance and political intrigue, she navigates her complicated relationships with Wang Yu, the exiled king of Goryeo who is her first love, and Toghon Temür (Emperor Huizong of Yuan), the weak and vulnerable Yuan emperor who grows to deeply love her. As she battles against formidable antagonists like El Temür and Bayan Khutugh, Seung-nyang transforms into a brilliant tactician and stateswoman, ultimately taking control of her own destiny and reshaping the fate of nations.
