Set in the near future, 'The First' follows the crew of the first human mission to Mars as they navigate the immense technical, physical, and psychological challenges of interplanetary travel. The series explores the complex dynamics between the astronauts, the ground control team, and the private aerospace company, Vista, that is funding the ambitious and perilous endeavor. Beyond the scientific mission, the narrative delves deeply into the personal lives of the crew members, particularly Tom Hagerty, a retired astronaut who is brought back into the fold. As the team prepares for the historic launch, they must grapple with the heavy toll their commitment takes on their families and the profound existential questions surrounding humanity's expansion into the cosmos.
