The series follows Todd Margaret, a bumbling and inept American office worker who is suddenly sent to London to head the sales department for his company's new energy drink, Thundercone. Utterly unqualified and desperate to impress his domineering boss, Brent Wilts, Todd immediately begins spinning an escalating web of elaborate lies to cover up his incompetence, ignorance of the British market, and general social ineptitude. As Todd tries to secure a major account with a hostile store owner and pursues a romance with a cynical local café owner named Alice, his falsehoods spiral completely out of control. Each subsequent decision he makes compounds his previous mistakes, dragging him deeper into surreal, cringeworthy, and disastrous situations involving bribery, drug use, accidental crimes, and international incidents. The narrative structure frequently bookends episodes with flash-forwards to Todd's impending trial for a catastrophic, apocalyptic event, showing how his seemingly minor fibs inexorably lead to the end of the world.
