The Jeffersons follows the lives of George and Louise Jefferson, an affluent African-American couple who move from the working-class neighborhood of Queens to a luxury high-rise apartment in Manhattan after the success of George's dry-cleaning business. The series explores their new life among the wealthy elite, often highlighting the cultural and social clashes between the outspoken, bigoted, and ambitious George and his more grounded, compassionate wife, Louise. As a spin-off of All in the Family, the show became a landmark in television history for its portrayal of an upwardly mobile Black family. The narrative frequently tackles social issues, racial tensions, and class dynamics with a blend of sharp wit and humor, supported by an iconic cast of neighbors, including the interracial couple Tom and Helen Willis and the eccentric British neighbor Harry Bentley.
