The Kingdom: Exodus

Set in the modern era and serving as the third and final season of Lars von Trier's cult classic supernatural horror miniseries, 'The Kingdom: Exodus' returns viewers to the sleep-deprived neurological ward of Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. The boundary between the living world and the supernatural begins to dissolve once again when the sleepwalker Karen, a devoted viewer of the original series, seeks answers to the unresolved mysteries of the hospital. Driven by somnambulism, she finds her way to the portal of the kingdom, where evil forces and institutional bureaucracy conspire to push the hospital to the brink of utter collapse. Inside the hospital, a clash of cultures ensues as a newly arrived arrogant Swedish neurosurgeon, Helge Rohde (grandson of the notorious Stig Helmer), attempts to modernize the department while grappling with both the ghostly manifestations of the past and the bizarre rituals of the Danish staff. As Karen digs deeper into the hospital's dark underbelly, she unlists the help of the dishwasher and encounters strange entities, including the washing-machine spirits and the looming threat of the giant advocate. The series blends dark absurdist humor, philosophical dread, and surreal horror to bring Lars von Trier's epic Danish masterpiece to its apocalyptic conclusion.
