Sandy Kominsky, a once-successful actor who is now a revered Hollywood acting coach, navigates the twilight years of his life with his longtime agent and friend, Norman Newlander. As they face the inevitable indignities of aging, health scares, shifting industry standards, and complicated family dynamics, the two men rely on their sharp wit, dark humor, and deep friendship to keep going. Throughout the series, Sandy balances running his acting studio with a tentative romance with one of his students, Lisa, while Norman deals with profound grief following the death of his wife and the erratic behavior of his troubled adult daughter, Mindy, who also plays a crucial role in managing Sandy's career and personal affairs. The show brilliantly blends comedy and melancholy, exploring how to find grace and dignity in a youth-obsessed culture.
