The story of a modern-day con artist who falls in love with a mermaid, intertwining with their past lives in the Joseon era.
Ensemble
Inspired by a classic Joseon-era folktale from Korea's first historical tale anthology, 'The Legend of the Blue Sea' tells the sweeping reincarnation romance between a mermaid and a nobleman that bridges centuries into the modern world. During the Joseon Dynasty, town magistrate Kim Dam-ryeong rescues and releases a captured mermaid named Se-hwa, sparking a tragic love affair that ends in mutual sacrifice due to human greed and malice. In contemporary Seoul, the mermaid re-emerges onto modern shores and encounters Heo Joon-jae, a charming, high-profile con artist who utilizes hypnosis and disguise to trick affluent victims. Unaware that Joon-jae is the reincarnation of Dam-ryeong, the mermaid—whom Joon-jae names Shim Cheong—struggles to adapt to human civilization while staying by his side. Although Joon-jae initially targets her valuable jade bracelet, he quickly finds himself drawn to her innocence, otherworldly strength, and uncanny familiarity. As Shim Cheong grapples with surviving on land without her heart hardening, a dark destiny unfolds once more. The malicious figures from their past Joseon lives are also reincarnated in the present, including a ruthless murderer and treacherous family members seeking Joon-jae's demise and inheritance. Joon-jae and Shim Cheong must decipher visions and relics from their past life to alter their fate and prevent tragedy from repeating itself.
