The Lineup is a classic American police procedural that originally aired on CBS from 1954 to 1960. The series follows the dedicated detectives of the San Francisco Police Department as they investigate various criminal activities across the city. Each episode typically begins with a crime being committed, followed by the systematic police work required to track down the perpetrators, often culminating in a dramatic lineup where witnesses identify the suspects. The show is noted for its realistic, documentary-style approach to law enforcement, utilizing on-location filming in San Francisco to provide an authentic atmosphere. The narrative centers on the partnership between Lieutenant Ben Guthrie and Inspector Matt Grebb, who navigate the complexities of urban crime while maintaining the integrity of the force. It remains a significant example of the mid-century procedural format that paved the way for modern crime dramas.
