The Nineties

Produced by Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, and Mark Herzog, "The Nineties" is an immersive documentary miniseries that explores the cultural, political, and technological landscape of the United States during the 1990s. Through archival footage, rare interviews, and commentary from leading historians, journalists, and pop culture icons, the series dissects a transformative era defined by the rise of the internet, the boom and bust of the economy, groundbreaking television, and shifting geopolitical realities following the end of the Cold War. The series navigates through major historical touchstones, examining how music genres like grunge and hip-hop reshaped global culture, how political scandals and the 24-hour news cycle altered public trust, and how technological advancements sowed the seeds for the hyper-connected modern world. By breaking down the decade year by year and theme by theme, "The Nineties" offers both a nostalgic look back and a critical analysis of the events that laid the groundwork for the 21st century.
