The North Water

Set in the late 1850s, the series follows Patrick Sumner, a disgraced former army surgeon who joins a whaling expedition to the Arctic as the ship's doctor. Seeking to escape the horrors of his past, Sumner finds himself trapped on a vessel bound for the North Water, where he encounters Henry Drax, a harpooner and a psychopathic killer whose presence on the ship turns the voyage into a harrowing fight for survival. As the ship ventures deeper into the frozen wilderness, the tension between the men escalates, exacerbated by the harsh conditions and the captain's desperate pursuit of profit. The series explores themes of morality, human depravity, and the struggle against nature, as Sumner is forced to confront the darkness within Drax and the fragility of his own humanity in a landscape where law and civilization have no reach.
