The O.C. follows the life of Ryan Atwood, a troubled teenager from a broken home who is taken in by the wealthy, philanthropic Cohen family in the affluent seaside community of Newport Beach, Orange County. As Ryan navigates the complexities of his new life, he forms an unbreakable bond with his foster brother, Seth Cohen, a socially awkward and witty outsider. Together, they attempt to navigate the superficiality, social hierarchies, and dramatic entanglements of the wealthy elite. Throughout the series, the core group—including the girl-next-door Marissa Cooper and the intelligent Summer Roberts—faces intense personal struggles, family secrets, and the pressures of growing up in a world defined by privilege. The show explores themes of class conflict, identity, and the search for belonging, all while balancing high-stakes teen drama with the complicated lives of the adults in the community.
