Based on the true story of the pursuit of serial killer John Cooper, the series follows Detective Superintendent Steve Wilkins as he reopens two unsolved double murders from the 1980s. With advancements in forensic science and a relentless commitment to justice, Wilkins and his team work to link the cold cases to a series of burglaries committed by Cooper, who is nearing the end of his prison sentence for those lesser crimes. The narrative explores the psychological toll the investigation takes on the detectives and the impact on the victims' families. As the team races against time to gather enough evidence to charge Cooper before his release, they must navigate bureaucratic hurdles and the cunning manipulation of a man who believes he has committed the perfect crimes.
