Set in an altered United States, the series follows the lives of several seemingly unrelated people living in a small city during the annual 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. As the clock ticks down, each character is forced to reckon with their past and their morality as they struggle to survive the night of lawlessness. The narrative expands on the lore established in the film franchise, exploring how the Purge affects different social classes and the psychological toll it takes on the citizenry. Throughout the series, the stories intersect, revealing the dark secrets of the New Founding Fathers of America and the desperate measures individuals take to protect their loved ones or seek vengeance in a society where the law has been suspended.
