The story follows a salaryman who, after being pushed in front of a train by a disgruntled subordinate, is confronted by a self-proclaimed god known as Being X. Reincarnated as a young girl named Tanya Degurechaff in an alternate-history version of Europe embroiled in a world war, Tanya retains her cold, calculating adult consciousness. She joins the Imperial Army's Mage Division, determined to climb the ranks and live a safe, comfortable life far from the front lines. However, Tanya's exceptional magical aptitude and ruthless efficiency make her a target for both her superiors and the vengeful Being X, who seeks to force her to pray and acknowledge his divinity. As she rises to become a legendary commander known as the 'Devil of the Rhine,' Tanya finds herself constantly thrust into the most dangerous battles, forced to outmaneuver both enemy nations and the divine interference of a god she refuses to submit to.
