The Serpent Queen

The Serpent Queen tells the story of Catherine de Medici, who, against all odds, becomes one of the most powerful and longest-serving rulers in French history. The series begins with Catherine's childhood as an orphaned Italian noblewoman who is married into the 16th-century French court at the age of 14. Despite being an outsider with no dowry and an inability to conceive, she must rely on her intelligence and cunning to survive a court filled with political intrigue, religious conflict, and dangerous rivals. As the narrative unfolds, Catherine transforms from a naive young bride into the formidable 'Serpent Queen.' Through a series of flashbacks and present-day narration, she recounts her journey to her servant Rahima, teaching her how to navigate the treacherous waters of power. The series explores themes of survival, betrayal, and the heavy price of maintaining authority in a world dominated by men.
