The Strain

Series Overview

The Strain is a high-concept horror drama series based on the novel trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. The story begins when a Boeing 777 lands at JFK International Airport with all lights out and doors sealed. Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the CDC's Canary Project, is called to investigate and discovers that almost everyone on board is dead, seemingly from a mysterious viral outbreak. As the investigation deepens, Ephraim and a ragtag team of New Yorkers realize they are dealing with an ancient, parasitic strain of vampirism that threatens to wipe out humanity. As the infection spreads rapidly across New York City, the series evolves into a gritty battle for survival. The protagonists must navigate a crumbling society while fighting against the Master, an ancient vampire seeking to bring about a new world order. The show blends elements of medical thriller, dark fantasy, and apocalyptic war, focusing on the personal sacrifices and moral dilemmas faced by the survivors as they attempt to stop the encroaching darkness.
