The Street is a critically acclaimed British television drama series created by Jimmy McGovern. Set in a typical terraced street in Manchester, England, the show employs an anthology-style format where each episode focuses on the lives, struggles, and secrets of a different household living on the same road. By centering on the residents of one specific street, the series provides a poignant and often gritty examination of contemporary working-class life, exploring themes of poverty, crime, family dynamics, and moral dilemmas. Throughout its run, the series gained recognition for its raw, realistic storytelling and powerful performances from a rotating ensemble cast. Rather than following a single linear narrative, the show weaves together the interconnected experiences of neighbors, highlighting how individual choices and external pressures impact the community as a whole. It is widely regarded for its social commentary and its ability to find profound human drama within the mundane realities of everyday life.
