The Wiz Live!

The Wiz Live! is a live television musical adaptation of the 1975 Broadway musical The Wiz, which itself is a soul-infused retelling of L. Frank Baum's classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The story follows Dorothy Gale, a young woman from Kansas who is swept away by a tornado to the magical Land of Oz. Upon her arrival, she accidentally kills the Wicked Witch of the East and sets out on a journey along the Yellow Brick Road to find the mysterious Wiz, who is the only one capable of helping her return home. Along her journey, Dorothy encounters a trio of companions: a Scarecrow who lacks a brain, a Tin Man who lacks a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who lacks courage. Together, they face various obstacles, including the vengeful Wicked Witch of the West, as they seek to discover their own inner strength and potential. The production is celebrated for its vibrant musical score, elaborate costume design, and a star-studded cast that brings a contemporary, urban sensibility to the timeless fantasy narrative.
