Set during the Christmas period of 1988, this three-part miniseries serves as the second television sequel to the 2006 film 'This Is England'. The story picks up eighteen months after the events of 'This Is England '86', finding the group of friends struggling with the bleak realities of adulthood, unemployment, and the lingering trauma of their past experiences. The narrative centers heavily on Lol, who is battling severe depression and the haunting memories of her father's death, and Woody, who has attempted to leave his old life behind for a mundane existence with a new girlfriend. As the festive season approaches, the emotional fractures within the group become impossible to ignore. The series masterfully explores themes of grief, redemption, and the difficulty of moving forward when history keeps pulling you back. With Shane Meadows' signature gritty realism and raw performances, the drama delves into the psychological toll of the characters' choices, culminating in a poignant exploration of whether they can ever truly reconcile their fractured relationships.
