Toast of London follows the life of Steven Toast, an eccentric, middle-aged, and perpetually struggling actor living in Soho, London. Despite his delusions of grandeur and belief that he is a world-class talent, Toast is constantly relegated to humiliating voiceover work, bizarre stage productions, and failed auditions. His life is further complicated by his dysfunctional relationships with his bizarre landlord Ed Howzer-Black, his incompetent agent Jane Plough, and his bitter professional rival, Ray Purchase. The series is defined by its surreal, deadpan humor and its satirical take on the British acting industry. Each episode typically features Toast navigating absurd scenarios, ranging from run-ins with eccentric directors to bizarre personal entanglements, all while maintaining an air of unearned superiority. The show is celebrated for its sharp writing, physical comedy, and the iconic, bombastic performance of Matt Berry as the titular character.
