Tokyo is haunted by mysterious 'ghouls' who look exactly like humans but crave their flesh. Ken Kaneki, a shy and bookish college student, finds his life irrevocably changed after a date with a woman named Rize Kamishiro, who turns out to be a ghoul. After a near-fatal accident, Kaneki undergoes surgery that transplants Rize's organs into his body, turning him into a half-human, half-ghoul hybrid. Struggling to adapt to his new reality, Kaneki must navigate the brutal underworld of ghoul society while maintaining his humanity. He finds refuge at the Anteiku coffee shop, a sanctuary for ghouls who wish to live peacefully among humans. As he is pulled into conflicts between ghoul factions and the Commission of Counter Ghoul (CCG), Kaneki must confront the darkness within himself and decide where his true loyalties lie in a world that refuses to accept him.
