Traffik is a groundbreaking 1989 British television drama serial produced by Channel 4, exploring the multi-layered international illegal drug trade. The narrative intricately intertwines three distinct stories: a Pakistani poppy farmer and his family forced into the heroin trade by poverty and local warlords, a German housewife whose husband is arrested in Pakistan for drug smuggling, and a British politician leading a government task force striving to stem the flow of narcotics into the UK. As the series progresses, the human cost of the global narcotics pipeline is laid bare, exposing corruption, addiction, and systemic failure across continents. The characters are profoundly affected by the ripple effects of the illegal trade, highlighting the complex socio-economic forces that drive the drug market from its raw agricultural origins to its devastating urban consumption points.
