Trust is a biographical drama series that chronicles the turbulent history of the Getty family, one of the wealthiest dynasties in American history. Set in 1973, the first season focuses on the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, the grandson of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, in Rome. As the young heir is held captive by the Italian mafia, the family finds themselves embroiled in a complex web of greed, dysfunction, and power struggles, while the patriarch remains notoriously stingy and detached from his family's plight. The series explores the dark side of extreme wealth, examining how the Getty fortune acts as both a blessing and a curse. Through shifting perspectives and a non-linear narrative, the show delves into the eccentricities of J. Paul Getty, the desperation of the kidnappers, and the frantic efforts of the family to secure the boy's release. It is a stylish, cynical, and gripping examination of legacy, morality, and the price of human life in the face of insurmountable riches.
