Ugly Betty

Betty Suarez is a sweet, intelligent, and hard-working young Mexican-American woman from Queens, but she doesn't fit the typical glamorous mold of the fashion industry. When publishing mogul Bradford Meade hires her as an assistant for his playboy son, Daniel, at the high-fashion magazine 'Mode', it's not out of appreciation for her resume, but rather because Daniel won't be tempted to sleep with her. Despite facing relentless mockery from the shallow staff—particularly the snarky receptionist Amanda and the ruthless creative director Wilhelmina Slater—Betty uses her optimism, sharp intellect, and unwavering tenacity to win over her boss and prove her worth in a superficial world. Over the course of the series, the professional and personal lives of the Mode staff unravel amidst corporate espionage, secret identities, and romantic entanglements. Betty navigates her complicated family dynamics with her widowed father Ignacio, her ambitious sister Hilda, and her nephew Justin, all while discovering her own identity, career ambitions, and path toward romance. As Wilhelmina plots hostile takeovers and Daniel learns to become a legitimate magazine editor, Betty transforms from an out-of-place outsider into an indispensable force in the fashion publishing landscape.
